On September 26, 1884, the apostles Joseph F. Smith and Erastus Snow sent a letter to Bateman Haight Wilhelm advising him to move Grace and her family (due to the crackdown on polygamists), turn over his property in Erastus to David K. Udall to settle his debts, and leave Lydia on her homestead to perfect the title. The text of the letter reads: <pre> Snowflake, Arizona 26 Sept. 1884 B. H. Wilhelm and family Erastus Arizona: We think it advisable to have Grace and her family moved out of the way. Also to turn over to Bishop David K. Udall the town property in Eratus, and land in the fields to apply on amount of indebtedness due Bro. Udall, and to prevent its falling into the hands of the enemy, in the way of fines, etc. Sister Lydia Hannah had better remain on her homestead, and perfect the title to the same.
